The first of two articles. States there are a number of reasons for recommending an hour-by-hour procedure for refrigeration load calculations. Presents a discussion of these reasons and explores the details of a plan to apply existing hour-by-hour heat transfer equations to specific refrigeration applications. The equations discussed are concerned with envelope heat gains.
