What do a Las Vegas mayor, a British admiral, German U-boats, a Nobel Prize winner, and British dreadnoughts have in common? This month’s Building Sciences discusses the implications of a decision made in the 1990s that haunts Las Vegas homeowners and home builders to this day. The bylaw change made by the mayor to have hot water circulation systems installed in all new homes, when coupled with the water in Las Vegas, and PEX water supply piping, makes for an interesting study of physics, chemistry, and unintended consequences.
