In the 1970s and 80s, demonstration houses were built in the U.S. and Canada that proved that good building design provided major energy savings. However, the lessons learned from the houses are still not being implemented. This column describes the Westford House, a modern energy-efficient house that was built as a part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America program.
