The exergy value of air entails three contributions: thermal, related to the air temperature; mechanical, related to the air pressure; and chemical, related to the humidity ratio of the air. This paper discusses the importance of the thermal and chemical contributions to the exergy value of moist air in residential buildings in the Dutch climate. This is illustrated by an example of exergy calculations for a ventilation system with air-to-air heat exchange used in building HVAC applications.
