The radiant slab-on-grade is examined from a control theoretic viewpoint. A distinction is drawn between two system types: the temperature-modulated vs. the flux-modulated radiant slab. An approximate linear model and stability test are obtained for flux-modulated systems, useful in design and prediction. The stability test is illustrated with numerical examples. While the stability of flux-modulated systems is robust, the stability of the temperature-modulated systems is very sensitive to design parameters.
