The current sizing methods for hotel and motel service hot water heating systems were predicated on a traditional concept of these types of facilities. Presently, the industry recognizes 11 different classes of hotel/ motels. Each of these has unique parameters of occupancy, facilities, and usage that impact the amount of daily hot water consumption and the pattern of its usage. Present sizing procedure are no longer appropriate for predicting the requirementns in the wide variety of facilities found today.
The data in the “Service Water Heating” chapter of the ASHRAE Handbook require upgrading as soon as possible. To achieve this, a significant testing program is required to produce data that can be statistically analyzed and used as the basis of new sizing procedures. A suggested timetable will permit this section to be revised in the 1995 edition of the Handbook
