Experiments performed at an unoccupied research house have examined the house dynamics and energy requirements associated with a variable-speed engine-driven gas heat pump (GHP). Test results showed that the GHP system maintained excellent comfort conditions during the heating season. Good comfort conditions were maintained during the cooling season except when individual rooms were subjected to high localised solar loading.
