Medical gas systems distribute oxygen, air, nitrous oxide, and special gas blends inside many medical facilities. These systems are essential to life support and critical care. Most facilities have conducted some kind of testing of these systems to help ensure safe operation and compliance with national guidelines. In many cases, the testing was incomplete or partial. Only certain subsystems may have been tested, and serious potential problems may have not been uncovered. This paper describes a proper universal approach to testing all parts of medical gas systems. Real dangers in conducting these tests are described.
