This paper addresses three issues of concern in rating the condensation potential of windows using physical testing and computer simulation. This work was done for three doublehung windows of various frame materials and design. First, testing was performed to evaluate the impact of window air sealing (i.e., air leakage) on interior surface temperatures. Second, the condensation potential of windows was tested for different cold side (outdoor) temperatures. Third, the suitability of computer simulation to predict indoor surface temperatures was evaluated. Recommendations on the techniques for simulating condensation potential are provided.
