The effectiveness of aerial infrared thermography as a procedure for residential energy analysis is investigated. Factors affecting the accuracy and utility of this technique are identified and analyzed, including the effects of local microclimate and different thermostat set points. Guidelines are presented concerning the recommended use of aerial thermography as a procedure for assessing the thermal performance of residences.
