The use of computers for engineering applications has grown at a fastpade over the last few years. Some aspects of most engineering projects today have to do with computer programs. People in charge of evaluation of projects are now faced with the new requirement of evaluating computer programs as part of an overall project. Typical questions that come up in the evaluation process are: Is the program adequately written for the application? What is the percent of completion at this point? What do we expect as a final product? When is a program complete?

TC 1.5, Computer Applications, has been asked to produce guidelines for deciding the relative importance to be attached to a computer program and the minimum requirements that it should meet.

It is the purpose of this paper to propose classification guidelines. These guidelines are intended to cover only the types of computer programs that are most likely to be found in HVAC applications.
