This paper discusses a new European standard on HVAC energy requirements for room conditioning systems, which is in a very early stage. It shows how this standard interacts with other standards and describes the difficult process with European standardization, where standards are split in very small pieces and developed in different working groups under different technical committees, requiring a high degree of coordination. Some ideas are presented:how the topic can be addressed in different ways and how other standards, such as those for cooling load and room temperature calculations, could be included in different degrees. No final standard outline can be presented though, since this requires a longer process.
