Tne project reported here had the objective of verifying the combination of two components needed to simulate the thermal performance of two simple residential buildings in a variety of climates. One of these components was those aspects of the BLAST program utilized in simulatiny the thermal performance of the two buildings. The second was the input data prepared to describe these two buildings.
This verification was performed by comparing BLAST’s predictions of temperature and energy consumption in these two houses with the results obtained by continuous monitoring of their thermal performance while unoccupied.
The annual and monthly energy consumptions were compared, and the energy consumption and the temperatures in the basement, the main floor and the attic were compared on an hourly basis for selected days throughout the year. The agreement between the detailed predictions and the detailed measurements was good enough to indicate that neither the elements of the program that were used nor the input data contained any significant errors.
