In this paper two methods of measuring ventilation rates in occupied buildings are described. Both methods use occupant-generated CO2 as an indicator of the ventilation rate at the stratum of the occupied space where occupants breathe the air. The present discussion is confined to nonresidential buildings, although these methods are also suitable for use in residential buildings where CO2 may be generated by combustion appliances such as gas stoves.
