This paper deals with the mechanical design of buildings to accommodate the climate of the North West part of Canada, the Yukon Territory and area of 200,000 mi that spans from the 60th parallel north to the Arctic Ocean and is bounded on the West by Alaska and on the East by the North West Territories. It has a population of about 24,000 people, with half of them centered around the capital city of Whitehorse. The remainder of the population is located in small communities in the resource development centers. Most of the towns are linked by a highway road system which includes the Alaska Highway and five major routes including the new Dempster Highway which rims north to Innuvik, an outpost town North of 680 North, at the mouth of the MacKenzie River.
