Most retail grocery stores’ refrigeration systems run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, consuming one-third to one-half of the total electrical energy for the building. Integrating refrigeration and HVAC, two industries often thought of as technically separate and independent, could help reduce a building’s energy requirements and achieve higher standards for energy conservation. And, coupling control integration with proposed energy codes and standards could further yield important market driving changes to both industries.
