The objectives of this paper are to describe the history of oil and gas of the Mediterranean Sea and predict the future. Papers about the oil and gas in theMediterranean Sea are compiled according to countries including Italy, Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, Israel, and Syria. Then, the papers arereviewed and key findings are analyzed. By using the available data, hydrocarbon resources are estimated for Lebanon which has awarded a contract toexplore for hydrocarbon resources to three companies which are expected start the work in 2019. Mediterranean area has been very quiet in the far past;however, in recent decades, it has become very active. Significant amounts of hydrocarbon have been discovered in this area and geopolitics has beenchanged significantly. Israel, which used to be a 100% hydrocarbon importer, became a gas exporter in the recent decade. Israel even signed a contract tosell gas to Egypt, a long-term enemy. Interestingly, it is energy that bridges the relationship between Israel and Egypt. Egypt is considering making itselfan LNG center by processing natural gas and shipping LNG to other countries if shipping by pipelines is not possible. As more hydrocarbon isdiscovered in the area, more countries will relie less on importing hydrocarbon from other countries, thus further reshaping geopolitics. The paper showsinformation about Mediterranean oil and gas in one place and no paper has been devoted to this purpose. The review, analysis, and prediction will helpgovernment officials, researchers, and policy makers to gain the hydrocarbon knowledge of the Mediterranean Sea and have a better picture.
