HVAC is usually for people. The objectives of the automatic controls of the HVAC system are to keep the occupants of the conditioned space comfortable and well while using the minimum amount of energy. It is surely time to consider sensing and controlling such variables as air quality, comfort, and presence (why maintain comfort conditions if no one is in?). It is also relevant to consider the potential of direct digital controls that exchange information within the HVAC system and provide the information for appropriate capacity control of the fans and refrigeration equipment.
