The compressor is a vapor pump and must have, as a part of the system, foolproof means for protection against damage from hydraulics such as liquid refrigerant or oil. Positive displacement compressors for refrigeration service are designed for pumping a refrigerant vapor at a temperature above 10 F above the saturation temperature at the compressor inlet pressure. But only a correctly designed evaporation system, adequately controlled for all load changes, will provide the required inlet conditions.
