The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has begun a major initiativeto maximize the sustainable building potential in its morethan 600 schools. As a first step, it seeks the U.S. Green BuildingCouncil’s LEED®1 certification on new buildings. The design of thesenew schools has been approached systematically, involving all aspectsof design, demolition, construction, and building maintenance.
