This paper reports the testing of two conventional fan-coil units of different size in a controlled environment rig to deter-mine their thermal performance and energy requirements during cooling operation. Part II of this paper describes replacing the fan motor with a small water turbine as the power source to modify the same two units. The thermal performance and energy requirements of the modified units were then measured and compared with those of the conventional ones for the same inlet conditions and fan speed.
