Keep a popular hobby safe by complying with the latest requirements for model rocketry as presented in the 2013 NFPA 1122.
Essential to public safety, NFPA 1122: Code for Model Rocketry applies to the design, construction, limitation of propellant mass and power, and reliability of model rocket motors and model rocket motor reloading kits and their components, for use by the public for purposes of education, recreation, and sporting competition.
Significant changes in the 2013 edition that motor manufacturers and consumers need to know about include:
- Changes to defined terms and requirements were included to comply with federal regulatory changes for both operations and model rocket motor weight limits.
- Definitions for Model Rocket Motor and High Power Rocket Motor were revised to align with NFPA 1125: Code for Manufacture of Model Rocket and High Power Rocket Motors and to clearly delineate between the two types of motors.
More specific requirements were included to apply to mass launches of model rockets as such events have become more common and separation distances for the spectators must be established for general launch site safety.
The Code also contains the Model Rocket Safety Code of the National Association of Rocketry as Annex B.
