Medical first responders and the people they serve deserve the best protection against occupational risks. Update now to the new NFPA 1999.
NFPA 1999: Standard on Protective Clothing and Ensembles for Emergency Medical Operations specifies minimum documentation, design, performance, testing, and certification requirements for new single-use and new multiple-use emergency medical operations protective clothing used by emergency medical responders prior to arrival at medical care facilities, and used by medical first receivers at medical care facilities during emergency medical operations.
New requirements help guard against highly infectious liquid-borne pathogens such as EVD.
In response to Tentative Interim Amendment 13-1, the 2018 edition of NFPA 1999 features a complete revision related to the PPE requirements of first responders and medical first receivers against ebola viral disease (EVD) and other highly infectious liquid-borne pathogens. This edition includes new provisions for performance requirements for PPE ensembles that offer full body protection and a liquid integrity evaluation to demonstrate an established protective level of performance.NFPA 1999 now covers single-use and multiple-use emergency protective ensembles and provide definitions for those terms. Other changes include:
- Adding the word “ensembles” to the name of the standard
- Revised design requirements for garment, footwear and respiratory requirements
- Revised requirements for the liquidtight integrity test and puncture resistance test
- A new definition for elastomeric interface materials, and new performance requirements for those items
Safeguard medical first responders with this critical update.
