This Standard applies to vessels during the course of construction, conversion, repairs, or while laid up. The title of the 2006 edition of NFPA 312 adds the word “Conversion” to reflect the fact that conversion from one type or service to another is one of the common processes that a vessel may undergo during its operational life.
