Describes an experiment using a rule-based fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to control an HVAC system. The rule development and adjustment strategies for the FLC are presented and the multilevel-relay feature is analysed. The experimental results indicate that the FLC performs better than a conventional PID controller. The analysis for the FLC is presented in a companion paper (Huang and Nelson 1994).
