A computational model based on a simplified energy analysis method (ASEAM) has been developed through funding support from the U.S. Department of Energy. It incorporates a modified bin method program for the energy consumption and the HVAC system design calculations for residential and simple commercial buildings. The present version of the code was first introduced to a group of university HVAC faculty attending the 1987 Institute on Energy and Engineering Education. The authors have examined the possibility of replacing existing software with ASEAM in a senior/graduate level course. This paper will address the observed positive features of ASEAM while suggesting the needed improvements in order for it to serve as an effective educational tool.
