The solid-gas zeolite adsorption system utilizes the extremely open frame of the zeolite crystal structure and the resulting adsorption of very large quantities of most polar gases. The interaction of the dipole or quadrupole moment of the gas molecule with the internal crystal field of the zeolite frame is very strong and extremely nonlinear, thereby providing this family of materials with unique adsorption properties that permit extremely high efficiencies for adsorption heat pump cycles with air-cooled condensers. Combining the zeolite technology with the principle of energy regeneration results in a single-effect system with seasonal cooling COPs of 1.2 and heating COPs above 1.8 and initial equipment cost comparable to electric heat pumps.
