This paper discusses a number of experiences commissioning building HVAC systems and lends some insight into how to approach a commissioning assignment and how to diagnose the observations made during the process. Through the use of examples from actual experiences, the author describes the data an engineer can obtain during the commissioning process and presents analyses that led to identifying and solving the problems observed. The analyses demonstrate how engineering calculations must be used in conjunction with field observations to solve commissioning problems.
