First responders, such as firefighters, to chemical, biological andradiation (CBR) incidents need improved protective systems thatcan provide comfort as well as protection. This article describes threeapproaches to CBR protection: chemical barriers to destroy agents; totallyimpermeable barriers; and filtering and/or absorbing barriers. It also discusseswhy providing comfort using these systems is such a challenge.
