This research project verifies and updates the ASHRAE Applications Handbook information regarding control of diesel exhause in enclosed locomotive facilities. Such research is necessary due to shifting standars, contaminant guidelines and environmental regulations. The three phases of this project include a review of existing guidance, regulations and approaches to locomotive facility ventilation, field measurements conducted in four operating facilities, and a parametric study of ventilation options conducted using computational fluid dynamics.
