The work described in this Report was designed to study the effects on oil burner performance of alcohol addition to oil.
Specific targets identified in the RFP were:
– Can existing equipment use 100% alcohols, without modification and with acceptable performance (thermal efficiency, emission, safety)?
– Can existing equipment use oil/alcohol mixtures, without modification and with acceptable performance?
– Can performance with alcohols or alcohol/oil mixes be improved by appropriate modification: changing jets, atomizer re-positioning, etc.?
– What other problems can be identified or foreseen in either the tested units or in similar units?
The answers to these questions are presented in this report.
