A stratified, or stratified-cooled, air conditioning system is one which provides space cooling in the lower, occupied zone of a building while leaving the upper zone uncooled. The upper zone will, in general, reach some level of temperature, higher than that of the lower zone, due to a natural buoyancy effects producing thermal stratification.
The intent of the work reported here is to provide information on load reduction and on procedures for load calculation, based on measured results in a full scale facility. It serves the purpose of providing verification of conclusions reached earlier in analytical studies.
