A review of published biofiltration literature was conducted to determine the capacity and limitations of biofiltration for removing volatile organic compounds and inorganic pollutants from air. A list of over 250 references was compiled and copies of over 224 publications were collected and reviewed. In addition, interviews were conducted with individuals from five organizations with experience using or designing biofiltration systems. Key elements of the review are summarized here while a more detailed discussion is presented in the report.
