Stratification can exist in many different locations in an air-handling system. The possibility of stratification exists any time two airstreams with different properties are introduced into the same duct or plenum. The stratification can be one of temperature, humidity or any other property. Perhaps the most common example of this stratification is found within the air-handling unit where the outdoor and return airstreams are combined to form the supply airstream.
