WHY DEVELOP A COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN SYSTEM?

Building inhabitants are demanding ever higher standards for their environments. This has escalated costs forcing builders towards larger modules hoping for economy from size. Both factors have increased the complexity giving birth to technological proliferation and system specialization which in itself is increasingly aggravating a costly time dependent industry. The interdependency of building systems dictates a systems engineering approach to design and construction, but the time constrained specialists operating in an archaic manual environment can at best hope only to create more optimal subsystems. Each ignores its surrounding neighbors which often are viewed as incompatible or even as competitors. These problems, compounded with a greater awareness of operating costs, is creating a demand for an improved design methodology. The computer with its enormous capabilities for storage, retrieval, computation and communication provides us with a glimmer of hope.
