A survey of system designers completed in 1983 by the Air Diffusion Council indicated their first choice for performance and cost was a single-duct VAV system with and without reheat. Other terminals high on the list were VAV fan powered, double-duct, and single duct constant volume.

This paper reviews these terminals for energy consumption and, with other statements from the survey, outlines the changes needed to fulfill the intent of the designers. The indicated diffuser preferences have a bearing on the system applications, and recommendations are also included in this area.
