A new absorption heat pump is being developed that uses a new organometallic liquid absorbent and hydrogen or nitrogen gas as a refrigerant. The organometallic liquid is environmentally clean, has ~1.3 wt.% hydrogen uptake capacity, and has ?H/cp ~ 10-15 times higher than that of ammonia/water, so more compact, higher power density heat pumps are possible. The compressor-driven and heat-driven heat pumps are described and analyzed. The analysis indicates that high efficiencies are possible.
