Describes a supplied air system that provides additional control for industrial operations that have existing local exhaust or general ventilation types of control. States the system can also serve as a primary means for controlling exposure to contaminants and can produce significant control for physical hazards associated with hot work environments. Essential to the design of the system is the aerodynamic performance of the supply air distribution plenum, where uniform discharge velocities of 200 fpm or less provide dramatic improvements. States this was accomplished without excessive pressure drop requirements or use of expensive high-pressure filter distribution techniques. Concludes that the simplicity of the distribution plenum design and the uniformity of the performance attained make it possible to adapt the system to a wide range of work stations.
