This Registered Disclosure Document (RDD) describes a bitstream syntax and semantics used to transmitSMPTE 291 formatted ancillary data (both VANC and HVANC) from the input of an encoder, through anMPEG-2 Transport Stream, and to reconstruct the ancillary data accurately at the output of a decoder. Thisprotocol is in current use within several fielded productsi,ii. In addition, this data format has been in use by amajor television network for HD contribution and distribution applications since mid 2003.
