This paper describes an experimental investigation of a novel transverse fan configuration with a log-spiral rear wall. The fan housing was constructed to allow for the addition of a secondary inlet and inner adjustable control vane, as described by Hollenberg (U.S. Patent #3,441,201).
Fan performance is given in terms of the dimensionless co-efficients of static pressure and static efficiency versus the flow coefficient for both single inlet and secondary inlet cases. In addition, the effect of the adjustable control vane on fan performance is presented.
The transverse fan obeyed the fan scaling laws over the speed range tested and for chord Reynolds numbers in the range between 6000 and 11,000. The design point for both single and secondary inlet. cases occurred at a static efficiency of 33% and a flow coefficient of 0.36, with a resulting static pressure coefficient of about 1.45.
