The application of carbon dioxide (CO2) referigeration systems for comfort air cooling reached its highest point in the 1920s. The Depression caused a significant reduction in the number of installations and the advent of R-12 for comfort-cooling systems replaced the use of CO2 as the “safe” refrigerant.
