Thermography is the science of detecting and measuring variations in heat emitted by an object and transforming them into visible images. It is a rapidly developing technology for diagnosis and nondestructive testing in many applications. This article will illustrate applications where thermography can be used in the heating, ventilating, and airconditioning arena. Finally, the article will suggest issues to consider when establishing an IR thermography program or when contracting with others to perform the service.
