Notes the increased interest in plug/plenum fans for HVAC applications. Notes the advantages of unhoused fans – some have reduced space requirement, lower pressure and horsepower needs, lower first cost and more flexible air handling unit casing design. Examines their application in various situations including a pharmaceutical building and compares the application of unhoused and housed fans. Concludes by presenting rules of thumb for the application of unhoused fans.
